Based within the London office, The Senior Business Analyst (BA) will work in the Data and Analytics vertical reporting into the functional lead. This role is responsible for enhancing and optimising the use of commodity data (power, gas and metals) across the Trading IT landscape. It will involve producing analysis of SEFE Marketing and Trading’s existing and new business processes and proposing best practice methods to support these. Their key objective will be to provide data-orientated technical expertise to a dynamic Front Office department that handles large datasets.
They will work alongside Business Analysts, Application Support Analysts, Developers, UTA team and Architects, to support and resolve incidents and, to drive innovation and automation, tooling and data infrastructure development. This is a business facing role so excellent communication (written and spoken) and negotiation skills are essential.
What You Will Do
In this role, you will work with complex data sets to optimize our business processes, ensuring data is used effectively to drive decision-making and enhance operational efficiency. You will be responsible for data provisioning, which includes gathering critical market data such as prices and FX rates, along with fundamental data like auction results, consumption, and generation data, including historical records, and bringing this into the organization for analysis and application.
A key part of the position involves enhancing and expanding our in-house data platform by implementing new features. This may include developing data integrity checks, enforcing data governance protocols, and creating data visualization tools that make insights easily accessible and actionable for the wider team.
• Work autonomously and within a highly skilled team to deliver both business process and technology enabled business change.
• Detailed documenting of requirements (user stories) as well as ‘how to’ guides and sharing of technical knowledge.
• Challenge business and technical requirements that are deemed unfit for the intended purpose and propose alternative ideas or suggestions that meet the needs effectively.
• Driving a better understanding of the value of data with stakeholders and users and contribute to improvements in data management and data quality.
What You Will Bring
In this role, you’ll need to be comfortable working with commodity data across sectors such as Power, Gas, and Metals, and possess a strong grasp of trading and financial terminology to support effective data management and analysis. A familiarity with market data providers like ZEMA, Refinitiv PointConnect, or Bloomberg is a significant advantage, as experience with these platforms can enhance the efficiency and accuracy of our data processes.
You should also have the ability to perform technical analysis, including establishing API connectivity with exchanges and conducting data retrieval using tools like Postman. Working with real-time data is a key part of the role, enabling timely insights and responsive decision-making in a fast-paced market environment.
• Ability to triage and troubleshoot issues in production for delivered items, ensuring timely resolution and minimal business impact (using tools such as ELK: Elastic Search, Kibana).
• Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Grafana, Power BI, Tableau).
• Proficient in data analysis for various data formats (e.g., JSON, CSV, SQL).
• A strong understanding of the Commodities Trading landscape (both physical and financial).
