In this hands-on position, you will be primarily responsible for ensuring the SM&T Group meets its global indirect tax compliance obligations, including VAT and energy taxes. Your duties will include preparing or reviewing indirect tax filings across multiple jurisdictions, such as the UK, France, Netherlands, Singapore, and Mexico.

The ideal candidate will have experience in multinational or professional services environments, with the ability to assist with compliance reporting while supporting the transformation of tax systems, processes, and policies to meet the evolving needs of the SM&T tax department and the broader group

What you will do?

  • Working closely with SM&T’s outsourced tax compliance service providers to provide data, prepare or review returns prepared by SM&T’s outsourced tax compliance service providers. Assisting in the internal preparation of certain Indirect Tax returns carried out in-house.
  • Completing control checks such as VAT balance sheet reconciliations and working with the business to identify issues and resolve issues related to returns.
  • Acting as operational point of contact for Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable teams and general business/operational VAT queries. Responding to any enquiries raised by the business or tax authorities.
  • Providing support on Audits (Internal and External).
  • Assisting the team with process improvement initiatives, including identification of opportunities, and supporting new process/system change roll outs.

What you’ll bring to the role?

  • Able to use excel is essential and able to manage working with large sets of data
    European language skills would be an advantage
  • Experience in Indirect Tax Compliance gained working in-house or within a professional services firm
  • Understanding of UK indirect tax principles and EU rules
  • Experience in using SAP is preferred
  • Experience in energy taxes would be an advantage
