As a Carbon Analyst you will develop, maintain, and refine our in-house carbon models leading to profitable trading decisions in carbon markets (e.g., EU ETS & UK ETS). Maintaining a deep understanding of fundamentals and market developments, you will keep the traders informed about news and data that could influence the market price for contracts, and how this impacts our in-house price/risk premium forecasts.
What You Will Do
Fundamental analysis and modelling of the carbon compliance markets is key to success. You will develop, back-test and run detailed analytical models of the carbon supply and demand balances (with a specific focus on the EU and UK ETS compliance markets). Working with traders and other analysts to develop trading strategies, you will be responsible for:
• Following and explaining news flow relevant to the carbon markets, covering networks, companies, and regulations (specifically renewables subsidies and design).
• Working with the gas and LNG analyst teams to better understand and leverage the dynamics in global energy markets.
• Performing ad hoc analysis and prepare detailed product specifications using Python and SQL.
What You Will Bring
Previous experience in designing trading strategies across any energy commodity (Carbon is ideal but not essential) is required. You must have previous experience of explaining complex technical subjects to a diverse audience. You will also have:
• Strong analytical thinker and ability to learn on the job
• Able to work across the team and organisation
• Extensive experience in modelling
• Detail-oriented and focused on continuous improvement.
